Degradation of Phenol Using Peroxymonosulfate Activated by a High Efficiency and Stable CoMgAl-LDH Catalyst

Abstract: In this study, we report on an active and stable CoMgAl layered double hydrotalcite (LDH) catalyst for phenol degradation by heterogeneous activation of peroxymonosulfate (PMS). The CoMgAl-LDH catalyst was synthesized by hydrothermal method. The PMS/CoMgAl-LDH system overcomes the drawbacks of traditional Fenton processes. Various effects, e.g., scavengers, chloride ion, catalyst dosage, PMS concentration, temperature, and pH, were also inspected to evaluate the system. The results indicated that the PMS/CoMgA… Show more

“…However, only about 30% phenol could be removed by this catalyst after 180 min reaction in SS-600-HCl/PS system. Therefore, the stability of the present sludge-derived biochar catalyst was not comparable to that of reported metal-based catalysts [47].…”

“…In recent years, the water pollution problems are more severe, which have received more concerns by many researchers, due to the various containments such as dyes, pesticides, pharmaceuticals and herbicides [1,2,3]. Those pollutants are usually toxic, stable and persistent in nature, which showed almost no biodegradability and hard to be eliminated by conventional treatment technologies [4,5,6].…”

“…Control studies consisting of only AO7 + PMS, AO7 + PMS + Fe 3+ or Ac-ZVI, and AO7 only were also conducted. The effects of different Fe 3+ concentration (0-20 mg L −1 ), Ac-ZVI dosage (1-3 g L −1 ), pH (3)(4)(5)(6)(7)(8)(9), and PDS/PMS:AO7 mol ratio (10:1-100:1) on AO7 degradation were studied. The pH was adjusted using diluted HCl and NaOH.…”
