Abstract:Atlanto-occipital dislocation with fracture (AODF) of adjoining bone is rarely reported and poses diagnostic challenge due to complex anatomy and inability of plain radiograph to diagnose it. Authors present two cases of AODF with fracture of adjoining bone with delayed presentations, including one patient with occipitalized C1. Clinical and radiological findings, causes of diagnostic delays, and surgical management are described along with a review of relevant literature.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
