Delineation of Groundwater Recharge Potential Zones in Namakkal District, Tamilnadu, India Using Remote Sensing and GIS

Abstract: Exploitation of groundwater and frequent failure of monsoons has produced rapid water table depletion in present days. Rainwater is discharged as surface runoff without replenishing the groundwater table. Identification of potential zones for groundwater recharge has become an important event to replenish the groundwater resources. The recharge potential is governed by various features of surface, subsurface and hydrometeorological parameters. Remote sensing technique is found to be very effective tool for the… Show more

“…Many studies of groundwater potentiality use weighted factor calculations (Shaban et al 2006;Magesh et al 2012;Selvam et al 2015;Samson and Elangovan 2015). Review of these studies indicate that the importance of factors that impact groundwater potentiality differ between study sites.…”

“…A number of studies on various aspects of groundwater exploration and assessment using RS and GIS techniques have been performed (e.g., Bilal and Ammar 2002;Kumar et al 2007;Al Saud 2010;Adiat et al 2012;Konkul et al 2014;Samson and Elangovan 2015;Deepa et al 2016). It was observed in numerous situations that the reliability of results is not consistent.…”

“…During weighted overlay analysis, the weightage was given for each individual parameter of each thematic map, and weights were assigned according to the multi IF of that particular feature on the hydro-geological environment of the study area (Shaban et al 2006;Yeh et al 2009Yeh et al , 2014Adham et al 2010;Singh et al 2011;Magesh et al 2012;Gumma and Pavelic 2012;Selvam et al 2014Selvam et al , 2015aSamson and Elangovan, 2015;Prasanta Kumar Ghosh et al 2016). For this study mainly focuses six factors such as Geology, Lineament density, drainage density, Land use and Land cover, slope and soil were related to other factors and also some factors were interrelated.…”
