Delineation of Sedimentary Subbasin and Subsurface Interpretation East Java Basin in the Madura Strait and Surrounding Area Based on Gravity Data Analysis

Abstract: East Java basin is a very large sedimentary basin and has been proven produce hydrocarbons, this basin consists of several different sub-basins, one of the sub-basin is in the Madura Strait and surrounding areas. Gravity is one of the geophysical methods that can be used to determine geological subsurface configurations and delineate sedimentary sub-basin based on density parameter. The purposes of this study are to delineate sedimentary sub-basins, estimate the thickness of sedimentary rock, interpret subsurf… Show more

“…The gravity method is a geophysical method that utilizes earth gravity to image subsurface rocks based on its density diversity (Wardhana et al, 2014). This method is commonly used as an early hydrocarbon and mineral exploration survey (Setiadi et al, 2019). In this study, the gravity method was used to determine subsurface geology conditions, including the type of fault and its orientation, lithology, and its distribution.…”

“…The tectonic framework of Java Island is influenced by the active tectonic activity of the Eurasian Plate and the Indo-Australian Plate. As a result, three dominant geological structural patterns have developed on Java Island (Figure 2): the Meratus Pattern, which trends in the northeast-southwest direction; the Sunda Pattern, which trends in the north-south direction; and the Jawa Pattern, which trends in the westeast direction [11]- [15]. The Meratus Pattern formed due to tectonic compression processes, which are believed to be the initial thrusting of the Indo-Australian Oceanic Plate beneath the Sunda Shelf.…”
