Delineation potential gold mineralization zones in a part of Central Eastern Desert, Egypt using Airborne Magnetic and Radiometric data

Abstract: A B S T R A C TLocalization of probable gold mineralization zones in a selected part of the central Eastern Desert of Egypt has been executed by mapping lithology, structures and hydrothermal alteration zones. In this regard, both aeromagnetic and aeroradiometric data have been utilized in the analysis; by making use of some enhancement techniques such as first vertical derivative, analytic signal and both Center for Exploration Targeting (CET) grid and porphyry. Also, ratio and ternary radiometric maps have b… Show more

“…The NW-SE structural trend is the common controlling trend for gold deposits; however, NE-SW was locally represented. These trends seem to reasonably coincide with previous studies [14,30]. Considerable matching is also evident between lineament density heat maps from both sources (geophysical and remote sensing).…”

“…Moreover, relying on the assumption that K/Th is rather constant in most rocks, the values ranging from -8.69847 to 39,507%/ppm. Rocks having values varying outside this range for K/Th ratios have been considered K or Th specialized [18]. The zones characterized with high value of K/eTh ratio are strong indicators of geothermal alteration while the zones with low values of K/eTh ratio are strong indicators of low geothermal activities.…”

“…However, aeromagnetics overcame that difficulty by mapping porphyry centres like some works [103]. Porphyritic deposits are associated to intrusive or extrusive activity, and require felsic to intermediate magma chamber and/or a cooling pluton; the inter-granular space along bedding planes and fractures in host rocks of enables percolation of hydrothermal fluids that will precipitate ore minerals then leads to the formation of hydrothermal deposits [2] [104] [105].…”
