Aims and Objectives:To investigate the self-reported access problems to dental care among adults in Abha city, KSA.Materials and Methods:A cross-sectional descriptive survey was carried out among adults in Abha city, Saudi Arabia. A structured, close-ended, self-administered questionnaire elicited the access and utilization of dental care among a sample of adults. Data were collected and analyzed using SPSS version 21.0 statistical software. The descriptive statistics and logistic regression analysis were performed to predict the variables associated with access and utilization of dental care.Results:A total of 499 adults (male = 270, female = 229) participated in the study. More than half (289, 57.9%) of the participants utilized dental services and emergency services (283, 56.7%) were the most common reason to visit dentist. For most of the participants (281, 57.1%), the last dental visit was less than 1 year. Majority (409, 82%) of the participants self-funded for their treatment in private dental clinics (382, 76.6%). More than half (258, 51.7%) of the participants received restorative treatment during their last visit to dentist. Cost (39.1%) and lack of time (28.7%) were the main barriers to accessing dental care. Education and income were all involved in predicting nonutilization of dental services among the study participants.Conclusion:Access to and utilization of dental care are the multidimensional concepts influenced by many factors. Cost and lack of time were the predominant barriers to utilization of dental services. Access to dental care is a multidimensional issue with education and income, were considered as the significant predictors of nonutilization of dental services. Similarly, income and transportation problems significantly predicted the use of private dental services. Marital status, transportation problem, health problems, and difficulty in movement were all concerned with multiple barriers to accessing dental services among the study participants.

Purpose: This survey aimed to investigate quality of communicating design features for the construction of cobalt chromium removable partial dentures (RPDs) among dentists in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Materials and methods: A survey of nine commercial dental laboratories located in Riyadh was carried out. In each visit, master casts for cobalt chromium RPDs and dentists’ prescriptions were examined. A quality score for the provided instructions was developed and ranged from 0 to 4. A zero score means that no instructions were sent from the dentist for the design of the RPD. A score of 4 means that instructions were provided for the design of four main elements of the RPD, i.e., shape of major connector, type of direct retainers, position of direct retainers, position of dental rests. Results: 162 dentists’ prescriptions for RPDs and related casts were assessed. The majority of RPD cases were designed by the dental technician alone (64.2%). Shape of the major connector was the most frequent element in dentists’ prescriptions (35.8%). The mean quality score of dentists’ instructions was 0.96 (sd=1.54). 18% of the provided instructions achieved quality score equal to 4. Prescriptions for Kennedy Class III cases achieved significantly higher mean quality score compared to Kennedy Class II cases (p<0.05). 16.7% of the evaluated casts had clearly defined rest seat preparation. Conclusion: The results of this survey indicate inadequate quality of communicating the design features of cobalt chromium RPDs among practicing dentists in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. The reliance on the dental technician to design the cast RPDs seems to be high.

Background: The primary reasons for individuals seeking dental care, often referred to as chief complaints (CC), have significant importance in the process of gathering patient histories and devising treatment strategies before commencing treatment. Aim: The aim of this study was to assess and describe the prevalence and patterns of CC among a sample of dental patients attending the University Dental Hospital (UDH) at Taif University, Taif City, Saudi Arabia, and also to examine the association between the type of CC and gender and age. Settings and Design: This study was a retrospective study. Materials and Methods: The process of data extraction and organization included the use of a standardized form. The form primarily consisted of demographic characteristics, including age and sex, as well as CC. The dataset comprises information gathered from a sample of 900 dental patients who sought treatment at the dental clinics of the UDH at Taif University during the period from September 2022 to December 2022. Statistical Analysis: All statistical analyses were conducted using the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) software, version 17 (Chicago Inc.). Results: The most primary complaints stated by patients were related to dental pain and the need for restorative procedures, involving 83.7% of the total number of visits. Dental pain was the most common CC (48.4%), followed by teeth restorations (35.3%), a routine checkup (6.6%), tooth cleaning (6.3%), and others (3.3%). There was a significant association between the CCs and the patient’s age and gender (P < 0.001). Conclusions: The findings of this study highlight the importance of acquiring an accurate CC. Moreover, dental pain and the need for restorative procedures were identified as the key reasons for seeking dental care.
