“…This finding replicates one past investigation that also found older age associated with RR use in naturalistic treatment over time (Lindgreen et al., 2021); while the authors suggest higher age may serve as a proxy for greater treatment motivation and engagement, this possibility cannot be tested directly in either sample. The need to clarify this result is further highlighted by past work in other forms of psychopathology suggesting that older age is associated with decreased engagement in mobile or virtual mental health services, although these findings have been mixed and positive findings have been most commonly found in veteran samples that may be older than our cohort (Bakker & Rickard, 2019; Connolly et al., 2022; Tobin et al., 2022; Valentine et al., 2020; Zeng et al., 2015). Overall, our sample had a younger mean age than might be expected in other cohorts of patients across psychopathologies.…”

“…Patient use was examined in 10 studies [ 41 , 43 , 44 , 50 , 53 , 54 , 56 , 57 , 59 , 60 ], patient satisfaction in 7 studies [ 45 , 46 , 48 , 49 , 51 , 52 , 55 ], and both outcomes were observed in 3 studies [ 42 , 47 , 58 ]. Patient use was mostly defined as having at least 1 telemental health visit during the pandemic [ 43 , 44 , 53 , 54 , 56 , 58 - 60 ].…”

“…In total, 11 studies examined the relationship between sex and patient use of telemental health services. Approximately half of these studies (n=6) did not find significant sex differences in use [ 43 , 50 , 53 , 54 , 56 , 59 ]. Nevertheless, 4 studies reported higher use rates in female participants [ 44 , 57 , 58 , 60 ].…”
