Moreover, amphenone which is known to reduce 11/3, 17« and 21 hydroxylations and oxidation of the A5-3-hydroxy group to A4-3-ketone in mammals (Rosenfeld & Bascom, 1956;Renold, Crabbé, HernandoAvendano, Nelson, Ross, Emerson & Thorn, 1957; Chart, Sheppard, Allen, Bencze & Gaunt, 1958) also reduced the formation of aldosterone and corticosterone in reptiles. Thus it seems likely that lower vertebrates share with mammals similar adrenocortical enzyme systems.…”
