Demonstration of dissecting popliteal cysts by joint scans after intra‐articular isotope injections

Abstract: A new technic to demonstrate dissecting popliteal cysts of the knee is described utilizing 10 to 50 .Ci (average 40) of 1811 HSA intra-articularly. In thirty-seven scans of 26 patients, nine instances of dissecting cysts were noted. These occurred most often in rheumatoid arthritis. The importance of clinical differentiation from thrombophlebitis is emphasized. The demonstration of dissecting popliteal cysts utilizing tracer doses of lS1l HSA has been found to be simple, safe and useful.
