Dendrochronology and growth of Copaifera langsdorffii wood in the vegetation dynamics of the Pirapitinga Ecological Station, state of Minas Gerais, Brazil

Abstract: This study aims to build a chronology of the growth rings of Copaifera langsdorffii (copaíba) in order to understand the dynamics of vegetation types that occur on a river island in the Cerrado biome. For this purpose, we selected 30 trees of copaíba established in a vegetation of Mata Seca Sempre-Verde in the Pirapitinga Ecological Station (EEP), state of Minas Gerais, Brazil. Two radial samples from each tree were collected by an auger. The samples were treated by mechanical polishing for better visualizatio… Show more

“…According to Rodrigues et al (2011), oleoresin is produced by secretory glands and accumulates itself in the lumen of secretory channels, distributed along the xylem. These findings were corroborated by Carvalho et al (2018), Medeiros (2016), Plowden (2003Plowden ( , 2004, and Marcati et al (2001).…”

“…The assessment of climate factors would explain the cambium's response, with rainfall being a variable that incites its activity in the American tropic (Callado, et al, 2013;Carvalho et al, 2018;Schweingruber, 1988). Various tropical trees show yearly rings as a result of seasonal climate, and this could be used to determine the age of trees and their growth rate (Groenendijk, et al,2017).…”

“…With great ecological plasticity, the species can occurs naturally in entire Brazilian territory, as in region of Minas Gerais state, Cerrado, Caatinga, Atlantic Forest, Riparian Forest formations and associated ecosystems (CARVALHO et al, 2009;MELO JUNIOR, CECCANTINI and BONA, 2011;COSTA et al, 2012b;NUNES et al, 2015;CARVALHO et al, 2018). According Orellana and Koehler (2008), although wood is the main economic resource derived from forests, some species have great importance for alternative products supply, as in the case of oil-resin, with wide range of medical applications (PIERI, MUSSI and MOREIRA, 2009;MUSSI et al, 2009;HECK, VIANA and VICENTINI,2012).…”
