Dendronized Anionic Gold Nanoparticles: Synthesis, Characterization, and Antiviral Activity

Abstract: Anionic carbosilane dendrons decorated with sulfonate functions and one thiol moiety at the focal point have been used to synthesize water-soluble gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) through the direct reaction of dendrons, gold precursor, and reducing agent in water, and also through a place-exchange reaction. These nanoparticles have been characterized by NMR spectroscopy, TEM, thermogravimetric analysis, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), UV/Vis spectroscopy, elemental analysis, and zeta-potential measurements.… Show more

“…High-resolution spectra for different regions were also collected to analyze the bonding interactions between elements ( Figure S5B-D, Supporting Information). The appearance of P 2p (132.18 eV), N 1s (400.48 eV), and Au 4f (83.18 and 86.88 eV) peaks [20] confirms the combination of i-motif DNA with AuNPs.…”

“…Finally, deprotection of the focal point was achieved by heating with HCl in MeOH, leading to the wedges HSG n (S-NMe 3 Cl) m (7Cl-9Cl) (Scheme 1, Figure S1). 34 On the other hand, the second procedure was successful and is described next. This final transformation was clearly detected by 1 H and 13 In producing cationic AuNPs following the Brust and Schriffin method from the dendrons described above, it was possible to use two approaches: i) using neutral dendrons HSG n (S-NMe 2 ) m for the synthesis of neutral AuNPs, and transforming these materials into cationic ones; ii) using cationic dendrons of the type 7Cl-9Cl.…”

“…30 In the view of these attractive properties of carbosilane dendrimers, we have investigated the way to translate them to other macromolecular systems. 34 Herein, we report on the synthesis of AuNPs capped with cationic carbosilane dendrons possessing a thiol function at the focal point. 30,33 Moreover, the impact of dendronization can be highlighted by the attaching of anionic carbosilane dendrons to AuNPs, which created antiviral nanoparticles from systems that were otherwise almost inactive.…”

“…25,26 In the case of anionic dendrimers, these were applied as antiviral agents mainly for HIV infection. 27,28 Recently, we also reported a synthetic platform of carbosilane dendrons 29,30 able to dendronize nanostructured materials such as poly(D,L-lactide-co-glycolide) acid, 31 mesoporous silica 32 or gold 33 NPs, as well as decorating their focal point with molecules of interest like ferrocene, 34 DO3A (1,4,7,10-tetraazacyclodocecane-N,N′,N″,N′′′-triacetic acid) chelator 35 or drugs, 36 among others.…”
