Dental composites for wide color matching

Abstract: Dental fillings are selected according to the color of the patient's tooth. Therefore, the dentists have around a dozen colors for each product in stock. Still, after a certain period of time, the choice could become suboptimal as the hard tooth tissue alters, for example, owing to specific habits such as smoking. Nanotechnology-based composites can at least partially master this deficiency. Similar to a chameleon, a filling with such a composite can match the color of the surrounding enamel. In this study, we… Show more

“…Aesthetics is a significant concern for patients seeking dental treatment. Resin composite is a commonly used direct restorative material, and achieving a proper colour match with the adjacent teeth is crucial initially and over time [ 1 , 2 , 3 ]. However, frequent exposure of resin composite to beverages can result in discolouration [ 4 , 5 ].…”

“…Two whitening methods that have been discussed are: (1) in-office, performed by a dental professional; this method uses photo-activation and stimulates colour changes from the first session; and (2) at-home (over-the-counter) [8]. At-home whitening is more costeffective for the patient than the in-office approach [4].…”
