Dentigerous cyst containing multiple impacted teeth: A rare case report

Abstract: The dentigerous cyst is a developmental odontogenic cyst, which apparently develops by accumulation of fluid between reduced enamel epithelium and the tooth crown of an unerupted tooth. It is one of the most prevalent types of odontogenic cysts associated with erupted, developing, or impacted tooth, particularly the mandibular third molars, the other teeth that are commonly affected are maxillary canines. The present case report is unique as it enclosed three permanent maxillary teeth: the central incisor, lat… Show more

“…The differentiating features are as under. 20 We should always remember that in child patients, healing of the postsurgical osseous defects are always good and thanks to their robust propensity for bone regeneration. This point was further reiterated by the present case and is quite evidently noticeable on the follow-up radiographs.…”

“…These include growth of the maxillofacial skeleton and development of the primary and permanent dentition, all of which can be associated with cyst formation [15]. Regarding the location, DCs in the anterior maxilla have been reported [17,18], however, in most of cases, the recommended treatment is usually radical surgery, with removal of the teeth involved [14]. The case reported is consistent with findings in the literature, but differs with respect to the number of teeth involved and the success of a conservative treatment.…”

“…The epithelium is surrounded by fibrocollagenous connective tissue. Odontogenic cysts are originated from odontogenic epithelium which is obtained from the basal epithelium of stomodeum (1). The growth of cysts occurs slowly and infiltratively by expanding from center to the perimeter (2).…”
