Dentinal tubule penetration of endodontic sealers after nonthermal plasma treatment: A confocal laser scanning microscopy study

Abstract: One of the factors affecting the success of endodontic treatment is to fill the root canal system hermetically. The aim of this in vitro study was to evaluate the effect of nonthermal plasma (NP) on dentinal tubule penetration of root canal sealers using confocal laser scanning microscopy. Forty mandibular premolar teeth were selected and the root canals were prepared with large‐Waveone‐Gold rotary‐files. Specimens were divided into four experimental groups according to sealer and NP treatment (n = 10). G1: AH… Show more

“…However, the maximum penetration value of EndoSequence BC was higher than of the AH Plus group after plasma application. The coronal and middle parts of the roots showed higher maximum penetration values than the apical part (36). The different composition of sealers might be responsible for different penetration values of AH Plus and EndoSequence BC or MTA Fillapex sealers after ACP application.…”

“…During the study, we used the confocal laser microscope, since the conditioning of the specimens for the scanning electron microscope needs to be dried [ 32 ]. The samples had to be subjected to gold-palladium sputtering and manipulated under vacuum [ 33 ].…”

“…[36] The modified dentin favors the penetration of the adhesive system, particularly the hydrophilic components, into the dentinal tubules, creating more and longer resin tags and thus increasing the bonding strength. [27][28][29]31,32] The long-term durability of the bonding was improved too. For example, the improved dentin and composite resin bonding durability was well demonstrated after 10,000 cycles of thermocycling or 2 years of water storage.…”
