The prevalence of type 2 diabetes and moderate fasting hyperglycemia is high in Guinea, while data on gestational diabetes are scarce. Objective: To determine the prevalence of Gestational Diabetes among women admitted for prenatal consultation, identify their socio-epidemiological characteristics and any associated risk factors. Patients and Methods: Prospective study conducted in pregnant women who came for prenatal follow-up in two urban health centers in the prefecture of Kindia, Guinea during the period from January 1 to June 30, 2018, screened according to the recommendations of International Association of Diabetes and Pregnancy Study Group (IADPSG). A single abnormal value is sufficient to make the diagnosis of GDM. All pregnant women between 24 and 28 SA were included. Women with multiple pregnancies and/or preexisting diabetes or refusal to participate in the study were excluded. The variables analyzed: maternal age, gestational age, parity and exposure or not to risk factors. The data were analyzed by specific statistical tests with a probability p<0.05. Results: Seven hundred and forty-two (742) pregnant women were screened with 103 cases of GDM diagnosed, representing a prevalence of 13.8%. The epidemiological profile of women with GDM was dominated by the average maternal age which was 28.7 ± 6.5 years, housewives 57.28% (59/103), no level of education 53.39% (55/ 103), married 67.96% (70/103) with an average parity of 2.11± 1.9. The average gestational age was 27.1 ± 5.6 SA. The risk factors were dominated by advanced maternal age, with a proportion of 70.27% and 13.41% of patients without risk factors, screening for GDM was positive (P < 0.000001). Conclusion:The GDM is frequent among the women followed at the prenatal consultation in Kindia. Systematic screening integrated with prenatal care remains the best means of prevention.

Introduction the association of diabetes with pregnancy is a frequent gestational situation that constitutes a real public health problem with prevalence and risk factors varying according to the population type. The present study aims to determine the prevalence of gestational diabetes (GD) and associated risk factors (socio-demographic characteristics, medical and obstetric history) in pregnant women from the Moroccan province of Safi. Methods this cross-sectional, descriptive and analytical study was conducted during the period from October 2018 to February 2019, on 208 pregnant women, attending the antenatal consultation services of four health centers equally distributed between urban and rural areas of Safi Province in Morocco. The data on blood glucose levels and the risk factors for gestational diabetes generally described in the literature were collected. The statistical Chi-square test and the logistic regression were used to check the association between gestational diabetes and the risk factors. Results the mean age of the pregnant women sample was 28.9 ± 6.8 years and the prevalence of GD was 24.5%. Using multivariate logistic regression, the most significantly associated risk factors were the diabetic inheritance of a primary relative (OR=2.616 [95% CI: 1.281-5.341]; p=0.008) and the high education level (OR=2.301 [95% CI: 1.123-4.716] p=0.023). Conclusion the results show that gestational diabetes is a frequent pathology among the study population. The data revealed also that the diabetes inheritance (primary relative) and the high level of education are the main risk factors of this pathology in the surveyed pregnant women in the study province.

The advent of the Covid-19 pandemic has led states around the world to impose several preventive measures in order to limit the spread of the infection, particularly among vulnerable people, including pregnant women. Indeed, a limitation of access to prenatal care has been observed at the level of recognized health structures, such as health centers; birthing homes; hospitals, general medicine or obstetrics gynecology practices. These systematic effects on the continuity of prenatal care as well as on the follow-up of gestational diabetes can lead to serious consequences for the mother/newborn couple. In this context coinciding with the era of digital health and from a reactive perception to overcome crisis situations, an innovative alternative is proposed by the development of a computer application allowing the realization of remote care. It is a means of communication between the caregiver and the patient and a facilitator of follow-up of gestational diabetes. It is applicable in both the public and private sectors and does not require a lot of resources or a high intellectual level.
