Food wastage because of the lack or incompletion of a household replenishment system is an essential topic to be addressed. An appropriate utilization of Internet of Things (IoT) and Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies with particular components is needed to design a smart household replenishment system to reduce food wastage. Therefore, this systematic review is dedicated to survey papers utilizing IoT and AI tools for perishable items storage compartments, as they are always full of items that need to be monitored. This study was conducted by following the PRISMA search strategy. It examined 70 papers in chronological order starting from 2000 when LG Electronics invented the first smart refrigerator, and research on technology involvement in food storage compartments increased. This comprehensive research aims to point out the approaches, contributions, used components and limitations of the reviewed papers to develop a unified framework for a household replenishment system. The analysis resulted in 43 approaches using IoT technology, 27 using AI, and recently the use of AIoT has been trending in the past two years. This systematic review provides future directions for researchers acquired from the limitations of the reviewed papers to enhance the household replenishment system by developing and adding required features in smart food storage compartments. Further investigation into smart home appliances would lead to extensive approaches like smart shops, industries, and eventually smart cities.

Besides the need for low-cost instruments for air pollution measurement and detection, nowadays there are many concerns about air pollution due to the fast changes and used technologies. This research was applied using an MQ2 gas detector, and microcontroller/Arduino-Uno. The design steps included bonding and connecting readymade sensors, coding, and finally testing the device. Testing has been conducted in Environment and Pollution Engineering Department laboratories, at the Technical Engineering College of Kirkuk. This study proposed the use of an MQ2 sensor for multi-gas rate detection which can exist indoors. The system uses also a DHT22 sensor for measuring environment temperature and humidity. The sensors are connected to Arduino and LCD to present data on LCD by powering the system with external power. Overall, the testing was conducted, and the device served as a measuring tool for indoor air as an accurate multigas rate detector.

Polymer-dispersed liquid crystal automated quantification system for vision through polymer-dispersed liquid crystal double-glazed windows: Circuit implementation (PDLC)-windows played an essential role in providing a visual comfort for occupants in commercial buildings recently. PDLC windows adjust the visible transparency of the glazing to control the daylight accessed to internal environments. A former study proposed an algorithm to quantify the vision through the PDLC glazing in terms of image contrast. The quantification algorithm determines the minimum level of transparency that maintains a comfortable vision through the window. This study introduced the implementation of a real-time automated system that achieves the vision quantification process. Firstly, system on-chip was utilised to realise the quantification algorithm, including contrast estimation. Secondly, the contrast determination action was re-implemented using MATLAB, Cortex-A9 microcontroller, and Cyclone V field programmable gate array field programmable gate array-chip. The implemented systems were evaluated based on the latency, throughput, power consumption, and cost.
