“…It must be stressed, however, that also several other factors than the dissociation of the acid may contribute to the stronger effect in acid solutions. The pH of the plasm and sap and the dissociation of their constituents are also altered (data for barley and pea roots are given by Theron 1924 and for wheat roots by Keyssner 1931) and this may give the same result as altered dissociation of the poison. Recently it was shown that in ui'fro hydrazoic acid and not the azide anion combines with cytochrome oxidase (Stannard «& Horecker 1948).…”
