Der thermische Abbau von Americium(III)-oxalat, -formiat und -carbonat / Thermal Decomposition of Americium (III) -oxalate, -formiate, and -carbonate

Abstract: The thermal decomposition of americium (III)-oxalate-decahydrate, americium (III)-formiate-0,2-hydrate, and americium (III) -carbonate-2-hydrate was studied by using mass spectromertic identification of gaseous decomposition products and X-ray identification of solid residues. The oxalate decomposition proceeded via four different hydration steps to the anhydrous oxalate, Am2 (C204) 3 , which decomposed to the anhydrous carbonate Am2(C03)3. This, in turn, was decomposed to Am203 wia two intermediate carbonates… Show more

“…The formate decomposes at 300-350 C to AmO(HCOO), and at 400-500 C to the oxycarbonate Am 2 O 3 CO 3 , which forms at 520 C the sesquioxide Am 2 O 3 (Weigel and ter Meer, 1971). …”

“…Transition metal and alkaline earth metal formates have historically been of interest as mediators in nuclear reactors which explains the various investigations into their decomposition behaviour. 40,[48][49][50]52,[96][97][98] However, the interest of this research was never the production of oxalate. However, transition metal formates only lead to the formation of carbonate, metal oxides, metals, or carbon as solid products.…”
