Dereplication by HPLC‐DAD‐ESI‐MS/MS and Screening for Biological Activities of Byrsonima Species (Malpighiaceae)

Abstract: This research contributes to the study of the genus, it is the first report of the chemical composition of B. sericea and demonstrates the importance of the dereplication process, allowing the identification of known compounds without time-consuming procedures. “…Extracts were analyzed, using six different complementary assays, for their radical-scavenging activity against 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH), 2,2′-azino-bis-(3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulfonic acid) (ABTS), superoxide anion (O 2 − ) and nitric oxide (NO) radicals, for their ferric reducing antioxidant power (FRAP) and the capacity to inhibit lipid peroxidation by β -carotene bleaching test (BCB). Then, the phytochemical profile was performed by LC-ESI-MS/MS analysis and the identification and quantification of polyphenols were achieved using commercially available standards [ 24 ].…”

“…The reference hydromethanol extract was chosen to do the analysis for its better compatibility with the MS system. The compounds 1 and 2 were observed only in positive mode, and the compounds 3 – 9 in negative mode, as tentatively identified previously (see Supporting Information, Table S2) . The identification of the compounds was carried out on the basis of heuristic filters.…”

“…Recent study showed that extract of several species of Byrsonima spp. (Malpighiaceae) in different concentrations (12.5 and 50 μg/mL) were not cytotoxic against RAW 264-7 cells (Fraige et al 2018). In 2016, Düsman et al evaluated the cytotoxicity of the aqueous extract from Malpighia glabra linnaeus fruits in vivo and in vitro in Wistar rats, and against bone marrow derived cells from these animals.…”
