Derivation of two-way volume equation for bamboo, Phyllostachys pubescens

Abstract: We derive a two-way volume equation for estimating the apparent culm volume of one of the largest bamboo species, Phyllostachys pubescens Mazel ex Houz. The volume equation was derived from the assumptions that (1) the relative culm form can be expressed by Kunze's equation and (2) normal form-factors at two different relative heights are steady at constants independent of culm sizes. A total number of 200 sample culms were collected from a stand of P. pubescens in Mt. Toshima, Kumamoto Prefecture, western Jap… Show more

“…Esse procedimento é ainda mais complexo, requerendo software específico, porque a operação matemática resultante não é óbvia. Suga et al (2011) (SILVA et al, 2009;MENDES et al, 2010;DALLAGNOL et al, 2013). Mesmo em nível internacional os trabalhos de modelagem são bastante restritos.…”

“…(24), for moso bamboos was evaluated by the following procedure. Since there were no available data on either r 0.1 or , we deduced a new linear relation: r 0.1 = 0.466d b + 0.231 (coefficient of determination R 2 = 0.997), from statistical analysis of other existing data for the breast-height diameter d b and r 0.1 over 200 samples [45]. It is noteworthy that d b is a common dendrometric measurement, expressing the diameter of the trunk or bole of a standing tree at the height of an adult human's breast ( 1.3 m) [49].…”
