Deriving executable BPEL from UMM Business Transactions

Abstract: UN/CEFACT's Modeling Methodology (UMM) is a UML profile for modeling global B2B choreographies. The basic building blocks of UMM are business transactions, which describe the exchange of a business document and an optional response. In addition to these business document exchanges, UMM business transactions mandate business signals that acknowledge the correctness of business documents. It is expected that a business service interface (BSI) on each business partner's side reacts on incoming messages and on mes… Show more

“…In our work we specifically target at ebBP BusinessTransactions that cover domainspecific characteristics of B2Bi document exchanges. In this area, the execution of RosettaNet PIPs [18], [19] or UMM BusinessTransactions [5], [20], [21] using Web Services or WS-BPEL has been researched. RosettaNet PIPs as well as UMM BusinessTransactions share a lot of concepts with ebBP BusinessTransactions.…”

“…The majority of these does not describe a proof-ofconcept implementation of a working translator ( [13]), does only consider BusinessTransactions and not BusinessCollaborations ( [19]), does not cover B2Bi QoS properties ( [10]), and/or derives BPEL from WS-CDL and not ebBP ( [12], [11]). As far as we know full support for ebBP QoS attributes during translation to BPEL has not yet been described.…”

“…The research work in [22] examines the BPMN-BPEL binding. In terms of UMM, work to map a global choreography defined in UMM to an ebXML business process specification [23] and to generate BPEL orchestrations from UMM business transactions [24] has already been done.…”
