Desarrollo de habilidades sociales en estudiantes de práctica profesional de la Corporación Universitaria del Caribe, Colombia

Abstract

Social skills are a fundamental element in the 21st century professional because they allow establishing positive interpersonal relationships and functioning in different contexts, especially in labor dynamics. The objective of the article is to determine the level of development of the social skills of students in professional practice of the Corporación Universitaria del Caribe in Colombia. The methodology had a quantitative, descriptive approach, with a non-experimental, cross-sectional design. The sample consisted of 1,098 students in professional practice, using the attitudes and opinions scale as a technique, and the Social Skills Scale as an instrument. The results show that the students enrolled in the professional practice have a medium level of development of social skills, indicating that they have the ability to frequently respond positively in interactions with others, as well as in situations where they have to express disagreement or make requests. In conclusion, the students in professional practice of this university institution have a solid base of social skills, essential for their professional development in the 21st century; however, the need to continue strengthening these skills is also identified, especially in areas such as time management, resilience and stress management.
