Desarrollo y consolidación de los estudios regionales en España

Abstract

Los problemas regionales y territoriales, en general, han ocupado con frecuencia una posición importante en las preocupaciones de los investigadores vinculados al ámbito de las ciencias sociales. Sin embargo, aunque pueden contabilizarse algunas aportaciones muy interesantes realizadas en el pasado, en España la investigación sobre los problemas regionales se inició, realmente, en la década de los sesenta del pasado siglo y su consolidación tuvo lugar en el período 1975 al 2000, como se expone en las secciones 2 y 3 de este artículo. Una nueva generación de economistas y geógrafos ha protagonizado el singular avance de este tipo de estudios en el país y su resultado ha sido la creciente presencia de autores españoles en las publicaciones, congresos, proyectos y otras actividades internacionales que, junto con su propia expansión interna, han situado la literatura en este campo a un nivel similar al de los países que son líderes a escala internacional. En la sección 4 hemos tratado de mostrar cuáles han sido los temas que han merecido especial atención en las últimas décadas y dónde se han producido más innovaciones. La sección 5 sugiere algunos nuevos temas de interés en los que pueden producirse avances, y una breve nota final subraya que hay razones para pensar que los progresos observados tendrán una clara continuidad en el futuro. En definitiva, el artículo pretende ofrecer una panorámica del desarrollo de los estudios regionales y urbanos en España
