Análise de crescimento em cultivares de alface nas condições do sul do PiauíObjetivou-se, com este trabalho, avaliar o crescimento de quatro cultivares de alface, nas condições do sul do Piauí, para recomendar os melhores para a região. O experimento foi realizado em casa de vegetação, em blocos casualizados, com avaliação em parcelas subdivididas no tempo, avaliadas em seis épocas (20, 24, 28, 32, 36, Growth analysis in lettuce cultivars in Southern PiauíThe aim of this study was to evaluate the growth and recommend the best one (s) of four lettuce cultivars in Southern Piaui. The experiment was carried out in a greenhouse with a randomized block design, with split-plot in time evaluation (20, 24, 28, 32, 36, 40 days after sowing -DAS), and the corresponding treatments to four cultivars (Americana Rafaela ® , Grand Rapids TBR ® , Crespa Repolhuda ® and Repolhuda todo ano ® ) with five replications. We evaluated leaf area; leaf number; stem diameter; shoot fresh mass; shoot, root and total dry mass and physiological indexes of growth analysis. The cultivars showed significant effect in the studied parameters. Under the submitted conditions, the Americana Rafaela ® and Repolhuda todo ano ® lettuce cultivars showed better performance and greater morphological and physiological indexes. The cultivars Americana Rafaela ® and Repolhuda todo ano ® can be grown under Southern Piaui conditions.

In recent decades, projections involving population growth, changes in consumption paterns, modiications of the wastes produced, and a signiicant increase in resource extraction have caused concern in the scientiic world, in treatment companies, and in environmental and governmental agencies throughout the world, regarding the destination of the large volume of solid wastes generated, the relatively high contents of potentially toxic, carcinogenic and mutagenic substances and pathogenic microorganisms. Waste management has become very important to ensure elementary resources such as water, phosphorus, and food in the future. The recycling policy thus requires that wastes be classiied in terms of their appropriateness for new uses and also based on their origins and hazardousness of handling. These classiications are essential in order to allow a minimum of rationality in their new destinations. Currently, several studies have been performed to use solid wastes from human activities as soil conditioners and/or fertilizers for increasing crop productivity. Therefore, studies that monitor organic waste efects on agricultural soils deserve the atention of the international scientiic community, as it enables increases in the productivity of agricultural crops, iber, and biomass energy combined to reduce risks to human, plant, and animal health and environment.

RESUMO Este estudo foi conduzido para averiguar o uso de substratos orgânicos na produção de mudas nativas do Cerrado brasileiro. O objetivo foi avaliar os parâmetros biométricos, nutrição e qualidade de mudas de guapeva (Pouteria gardneriana) produzidas em substratos contendo diferentes fontes de matéria orgânica. Utilizaram-se os seguintes componentes para a formulação dos substratos: subsolo (SB), casca de arroz (RH), composto de esterco bovino [CC (silagem de milho + esterco bovino)], esterco bovino (CM), bagaço de cana (CB), torta de filtro de cana (FC) e BioPlant (BP). Cinco substratos foram formulados utilizando proporções em base de volume, como segue: SB+RH (1:1, v/v), SB+CC (1:1, v/v), SB+CM (3:1, v/v), CB+FC (3:2, v/v) e BP. Avaliou-se o comprimento do caule, o diâmetro do colo radicular, o peso seco da raiz, o peso seco da parte aérea, a nutrição e o índice de qualidade Dickson. A utilização do CM como fonte de matéria orgânica proporcionou, em geral, os melhores resultados para as características biométricas e a produção de matéria seca. O uso de matéria orgânica nos substratos SB+CM (3:1, v/v) e SB+CC (1:1, v/v) melhorou a qualidade do solo e favoreceu o crescimento e qualidade das mudas de guapeva, e podem ser indicados como substratos alternativos.
