Design algorithm of a uniform magnetic field transmitter intended for the wireless charging of electric vehicles

Abstract: This paper proposes to use uniform magnetic fields for wireless electric vehicle charging in order to resolve the problem of positioning the receiver (on the vehicle) over the transmitter (on the parking spot). A novel funnel-shaped coil structure is introduced to generate uniform magnetic fields, together with a design algorithm for determining the geometric parameters of the coil structure. This algorithm can be applied to the design of uniform magnetic fields of any size. Results show that magnetic fields p… Show more

“…Therefore, some papers presented algorithms of the design procedure for the optimal circular magnetic structure. Huang et al [42] proposed a design procedure of a funnel-shaped circular coil to obtain better uniform magnetic field distribution than that of planar type, and Hadadtehrani et al [43] presented a conical shape of the circular coil. Still, the funnel and conical shapes decrease the tolerance of horizontal misalignment, which is inferior to that of planar circular type.…”

“…Some scholars have introduced genetic algorithms into single-coil designs [18][19][20], but most studies have focused only on rectangular coils, and the amount of computation necessary is very large. By extending the structure of a single coil in the vertical direction, a uniform magnetic field can be achieved more easily at the expense of space occupancy [21]. However, the freedom in designing a single coil is limited, so it is difficult to achieve a breakthrough with this scheme.…”

“…The weaving‐type coil is wounded in a complex way and needs large amounts of wires, which results in low power transfer efficiency and low output power. A novel funnel‐shaped coil can produce a uniform magnetic field [15]. However, the funnel‐shaped coil turns are distributed both in the radial direction and the vertical direction so the funnel‐shaped coil is a little thick.…”
