Design, Analysis and Installation of Offshore Instrumented Moored Data Buoy System

Abstract: This paper discusses the analysis done on the meteorological ocean buoy mooring used for monitoring the Indian seas. Based on the extreme environmental parameters experienced by the buoys, mooring loads are analyzed using offshore dynamic analysis software. The results obtained are validated with the tension recorder installed in one of the moorings, and the results are found to comply with an accuracy of better than 1%. The successful on demand performance of the mooring during major cyclones in the Bay of Be… Show more

“…In order to validate the achieved mooring performance and identify further avenues for improvement, reliability analysis is performed for the operating mooring configuration based on the component failure models published by NSWC and OREDA. The failure rates for the mooring components were computed based on the stresses acting on the mooring components under normal and extreme cyclone conditions, which were obtained from an MSB instrumented with a load cell and self-recording system for a 1-year period (Kaliyaperumal et al, 2015). The FTA results shown in Figure 8 indicate a PoF of 14.7% (Gate Or7) under extreme weather conditions, and this corresponds to an MTBF of 6.3 years.…”

“…1 A special vessel for the buoy deployment But the disadvantage is that the large vessels, which is expensive and hard to access. Here a novel deploying method is introduced for mooring data buoy based on small fishing boat (the tonnage is about 100t) which is relatively economic [4,5].…”
