Design, Analysis of the Location and Materials of Neodymium Magnets on the Torque and Power of In-Wheel External Rotor PMSM for Electric Vehicles

Abstract: The technology of mounting electric direct drive motors into vehicle wheels has become one of the trends in the field of electric vehicle drive systems. The article presents suggestions for answering the question: How should magnets be mounted on the External Rotor Permanent Magnet Synchronous Machine (ERPMSM) with three phase concentrated windings, to ensure optimal operation of the electric machine in all climatic and weather conditions? The ERPMSM design methodology is discussed. Step by step, a method rela… Show more

“…The major objective of the proposed TMA is to compute the output of the real plant (process)for appropriate tracking of the model behavior, through an adaptation method. 23,24 As illustrated in Figure 5, the adaptation regulator output is directly passing to the process through the reference input. In the TMA approach, the adaptation method may be a simple gain or a classical regulator.…”

“…Considering the placements of the magnets in the rotor laminations for the studied models, the core slots are determined according to the slot pitch and number of slots per phase, by Equations (12,13) respectively, as given Table 3. In this table, the S parameter is the number of the slots on the rotor.…”

“…Therefore, thermal analysis is required to determine the demagnetization at different temperatures as it was emphasized in Shu et al [12]. Especially, the maximum torque improved, sufficient mechanical power and more efficiency can be obtained by proper alignment of the magnets for an outer rotor PM Synchronous Motor (OR-PMSM) while keeping the minimum value of cogging torque and low torque ripples [13].…”

“…In the electromagnetic and mechanical design we extensively use finite element method (FEM) and methods of production engineering, as in [8]- [11],which uses FEM to obtain input data for methods of robust engineering that generate material and geometrical data for physical prototyping. Our stator slots are narrower than in [10], and overhangs are shorter than in the difficult-to-manufacture [11].…”
