Design and analysis of a spread‐spectrum communication system with chaos‐based variation of both phase‐coded carrier and spreading factor

Abstract: This study designs and analyses a new phase-coded spread-spectrum communication system where both phase-coded carrier and spreading factor are varied based on a chaotic behaviour in the communication process. This design aims to reduce the probability of interception of the considered system. Discrete values generated by a chaotic map are exploited to create a non-return-to-zero (NRZ)-chaos sequence and simultaneously make bit duration variable. The NRZ-chaos sequence is then modulated by binary phase-shift ke… Show more

“…The spreading improvements are used by the DSSS systems [9][10][11][12] and related CDMA structures at the hour of level jumbling channel are used [8]. One information picture is spared more than a few host coefficients in SS embeddings structures [13,14].…”

“…Although security was originally considered as a high‐layer issue which can be addressed by cryptographic methods, physical layer security is now emerging as a new promising approach to wireless secrecy in communications. Physical layer security, such as digital chaotic communication [3–9], is the breakthrough idea to transmit a message from a source to the intended receiver while keeping confidentiality from both passive and active eavesdroppers.…”

“…As a result, it is not easy for an intruder to detect the symbol period by using energy detection methods [13,14]. In fact, the idea of chaos-based variation of the symbol period in spread-spectrum communication systems has also been presented in [15] and [16]. However, the spreading sequences investigated in these studies are binary sequences, i.e., PN and NRZ-chaos sequences, which have only two levels, "+1" or "-1".…”
