Design and analysis of a wire-driven flexible manipulator for bronchoscopic interventions

Abstract: Abstract-Bronchoscopic interventions are widely performed for the diagnosis and treatment of lung diseases. However, for most endobronchial devices, the lack of a bendable tip restricts their access ability to get into distal bronchi with complex bifurcations. This paper presents the design of a new wire-driven continuum manipulator to help guide these devices. The proposed manipulator is built by assembling miniaturized blocks that are featured with interlocking circular joints. It has the capability of maint… Show more

“…However, a review of other Sr-enriched biomaterials indicate that they outperform similar materials free of Sr in bone healing, bioactivity and osteo-integration at the bone cement interface [149]. Further, Sr-enriched biomaterials including CaSi ceramics [150], HA's [151] and CaP cements [152], have been shown to enhance bone formation. Following implantation of a Sr-enriched calcium phosphate cement, areas of enhanced bone formation were associated with higher Sr 2+ concentrations.…”

“…The use of steerable robotic endoscopes and catheters for diagnostic and surgical purposes is now commonly considered in several medical procedures [20], [21]. Although designs have been proposed for navigation in the human airways [22], the implementation of small-scale robotic video endoscopes for TT placement is still an open issue. This application requires an endoscope with an outer diameter below 6 mm that must provide a robust bending motion and must be structurally stable.…”
