Design and analysis of a switched reluctance motor with high temperature superconducting windings

Abstract: This paper presents an 8/6 switched reluctance motor with tapering poles, which is capable of carrying larger current and producing larger torque while the flux density remains unchanged. And this feature makes it possible of using high temperature superconducting windings to improve the torque potential of electrical machines. Finite element analysis with commercial software is utilized to support this result.
