Design and analysis of a bidirectional cross-linking transverse flux permanent magnet synchronous motor

Abstract: Transverse flux permanent magnet synchronous motor is suitable for high torque applications, because it features a spatial decoupling between electric load and magnetic load. A new bidirectional cross-linking transverse flux permanent magnet synchronous motor (BCTF-PMSM) is proposed and analyzed, which can fully utilize the rotor permanent magnets and have larger space utilization ratio than the traditional transverse flux machine. First, the fundamental structure and operation principle of BCTF-PMSM is introd… Show more

“…Yan et al presented a kind of novel flux switching transverse flux PM wind machine and proposed a novel flux concentrated transverse flux PM disk machine for low speed direct drive wind power applications [15,16]. Zhang H. et al proposed and analysed a new bidirectional cross-linking transverse flux PM synchronous motor, which can fully utilise the rotor PMs and have larger space utilisation ratio than the traditional transverse flux machine [17,18]. Yao et al designed a concentrated-flux transverse flux PM motor based on a completed design of a surface-mounted transverse flux PM motor with auxiliary stators [19].…”

“…TFPMMs are also recognized as modulated pole machines [8,9]. The TFPMM usually has a toroidal armature winding, where the current runs parallel to the direction of rotation [10]. In other words, the plane of the magnetic flux path of a transverse flux machine is perpendicular to the moving direction [11].…”

“…TFMs are inherently three-dimensional devices that require 3D FEA, which has been the main tool used for the analysis and design of many machines reported in the literature [3], [5]- [9]. By contrast there are significantly fewer papers on analytical methods [10], [11].…”
