Design and Analysis of Artificial Neural Network (ANN) Models for Achieving Self-Sustainability in Sanitation

Abstract: The present study investigates the potential of using fecal ash as an adsorbent and demonstrates a self-sustaining, optimized approach for urea recovery from wastewater streams. Fecal ash was prepared by heating synthetic feces to 500 °C and then processing it as an adsorbent for urea adsorption from synthetic urine. Since this adsorption approach based on fecal ash is a promising alternative for wastewater treatment, it increases the process’ self- sustainability. Adsorption experiments with varying fecal ash… Show more

“…As expressed by related studies, the current trend nowadays focuses on machine learning as analysis tools because this promotes higher accuracy rates compared to multivariate analytical tools [52,53]. As expressed in previous studies [54][55][56][57] and by Hair et al [58], structural equation modeling (SEM) is one of the most prominent multivariate analysis tools that encompasses path analysis, multiple linear regression, and factor analysis.…”

“…The detection of sewer pipe defects using a CNN was performed by Cheng and Wang [169]. ANN models were used by Ganesapillai et al [170] to achieve self-sustainability in sanitation engineering. A predictive model for construction waste prediction using an Adaptive Neuro-Fuzzy Inference System (ANFIS)-based waste analytics system (A-WAS) was developed by Akinade and Oyedele [171].…”

“…The development of efficient and accurate testing technology has been a primary focus across various domains. The application of machine learning in image analysis has demonstrated significant performance enhancements, with neural network models (ANN) capable of addressing multi-dimensional and multi-variate challenges [7]. ANNs operate analogously to biological neural networks, with interconnected processing units governed by calibrated weights.…”
