Design and analysis of biomimetics based excavator bucket and tooth

Abstract: Within the scope of this paper, various bucket tooth designs and a biomimetic bucket design were created in order to produce a solution on digging efficiency which is one of the general problems of construction machines. These designs were inspired by giant anteater and American badger front claws. The inspiration aspect was diversified by integrating the paw and claw curves of the giant anteater and by bringing American badger claws into the design in different ways. Furhermore, the designed biomimetic bucket… Show more

“…The resistance of the sample decreased by up to 12.6% compared to the standard bucket teeth of type 80, observed when the depth of penetration ranged from 10 mm to 40 mm. Furthermore, Akter et al [ 42 ] took both longitudinal and vertical cross-sectional curves of the claw toe into consideration and designed bionic excavator bucket teeth that contained more characteristics of the dog and badger claw toes, which also had good drag reduction effects.…”

“…It is worth noting that the digging force exerted by an excavator is contingent upon not only the mechanical structure and power system parameters, but also the shape, size, and material composition of the tool. In the pursuit of optimizing excavation performance, Akter and Basak [10] proposed diverse bucket tooth designs, including bionic bucket tooth designs, which exhibited lower equivalent forces and total deformation, as well as higher maximum Von-Mises stresses on the soil model when compared to standard bucket teeth. Sun et al [11], on the other hand, employed a genetic algorithm to derive the optimal shape line of the bucket, resulting in a 9.92% reduction in cutting angle compared to the pre-optimization stage.…”
