Design and Analysis of Permanent Magnet Synchronous Generator Considering Magnetically Coupled Turbine-Rotor System

Abstract: -In this paper, design and analysis of permanent magnet synchronous generator for ocean thermal energy conversion (OTEC) considering magnetically coupled turbine-rotor system is discussed. In particular, the rotor dynamics considering bearing span and journal shaft diameter is highlighted. The two topologies of permanent magnet synchronous generator with magnetic coupling are employed for comparison of computed rotor dynamics and generating characteristics. The analysis results show that the critical speed of … Show more

“…Generator rotor regarded as solid structure [3], this is used to simplified in calculation without reducing the rotational properties at the rotor system, like gyroscopics effect. Structural properties in the rotor will be described with Finite Elemen Method (FEM), this model in accordance with the Timoshenko beam theory, so that shear deformation and gyroscopics effect can be solved [4][5][6]. In this paper, stiff shrunk part model described in rigid part, on the other hand, all component can be resprentation with mass in generator rotor, like in Figure 1.…”
