Design and Application of a UAV Autonomous Inspection System for High-Voltage Power Transmission Lines

Abstract: As the scale of the power grid continues to expand, the human-based inspection method struggles to meet the needs of efficient grid operation and maintenance. Currently, the existing UAV inspection system in the market generally has short endurance power time, high flight operation requirements, low degree of autonomous flight, low accuracy of intelligent identification, slow generation of inspection reports, and other problems. In view of these shortcomings, this paper designs an intelligent inspection system… Show more

“…The UAS they developed is capable of tracking transmission lines at a safe distance of 15 meters and processing current key frames in about 3 seconds. Li et al [188] developed a UAV system integrating core functions such as UAV path planning, mission management, data collection and management, and intelligent fault troubleshooting, in conjunction with the actual needs of power line inspection projects. The authors conducted an actual test at a high-voltage line in Xuzhou City, Jiangsu Province, China.…”

“…The main function of the communication system is to transmit data, which is the bridge between the drone and the remote control. [29][30][31] A remote control receiver is set inside the UAV to complete the UAV's reception and feedback of information. In particular, the fouraxis UAV must have at least four channels to transmit signals so as to control the front, rear, left and right four groups of suspension shafts and motors respectively.…”
