Design and Assessment of Bio-Inspired Antennas for Mobile Communication Systems

Abstract: RF front-end system in the mobile communication system consists of an antenna, filter, and amplifier section. Now a day, there is a need to reduce the size of this RF front-end system. Here the challenge is the reduction in the size of the RF front end without degrading the performance. One way to reduce the size is by reducing the size or area of the antenna. This work proposes and simulates three Bio-inspired microstrip (BIMS) antenna designs. They are flower, Butterfly, and leaf shapes presented based on th… Show more

“…Radar communication is getting emphasized constantly especially with the inevitable role in the areas like air traffic control, speed detection, military applications principally in electronic warfare [1]. Micro strip patch antennas and Printed antennas are common candidates for radar communication and for mobile and satellite equipment [2]. Most commonly used antenna type in wireless communication is the low profile micro strip patch antennas due to its idiosyncratic behavior.…”

“…Ramya [12] proposed a triple band notch type monopole antenna with a complimentary split ring resonator structure for improving directivity in the operating bands. Ibrahim [13] designed a fractal antenna for various wireless communication systems applications. Hua and Yan [14] designed a notch band antennas with reconfigurability and a C-slot.…”

“…An antenna optimized for use with wearable communication systems is a coplanar waveguide-fed half-circular spike monopole antenna mounted on a textile substrate [7]. Its portability, light weight and ease of incorporation into clothes make it well suited for use in healthcare monitoring, sports tracking, military equipment, smart clothing and other related fields [8]. These antennas enhance the form and function of wearable electronics by being low-profile and easy to wear, as well as providing better signal quality than previous designs [9].…”
