Design and experimental characterization of a CPC solar collector

Abstract: Medium temperature solar thermal applications have received remarkable interest in the recent years in both residential and industrial sectors. These applications, typically in a temperature range of 80 -250°C, require thermal collectors coupled to solar concentrators. Concerning these applications, a prototype of Compound Parabolic Concentrator coupled to an Evacuated Tube solar collector, was developed and built. The instantaneous efficiency of the prototype was measured according to the suggestions of the E… Show more

“…Therefore gives the amount of optical efficiency. Figure (7) shows the irradiance distribution of the intensity illumination on the detector surface for CPC having concentration ratio c=2.Zemax program that provides this feature for one axis, and since reading is symmetrical for the detector, we choose one axis; let it be x axis.…”

“…In the present paper, which follows a preliminary one [12] the attention is focused on the design and testing of a solar collector where a high performance evacuated tube is coupled with a CPC. The design of the solar mirror was carried out by imposing a series of constraints related to a broad acceptance angle (about 30°), reduced mirror height, possibility to employ a displaced tubular receiver.…”
