Design and Fabrication of Flexible Naked-Eye 3D Display Film Element Based on Microstructure

Abstract: The naked-eye three-dimensional (3D) display technology without wearing equipment is an inevitable future development trend. In this paper, the design and fabrication of a flexible naked-eye 3D display film element based on a microstructure have been proposed to achieve a high-resolution 3D display effect. The film element consists of two sets of key microstructures, namely, a microimage array (MIA) and microlens array (MLA). By establishing the basic structural model, the matching relationship between the two… Show more

“…As the great innovation of three-dimensional (3D) display technology and the urgent needs of information display, the research of tabletop 3D display has attracted more attention and made great progress [ 1 , 2 , 3 ]. The conventional tabletop 3D displays, such as holographic 3D display [ 4 , 5 , 6 ], integral imaging 3D display [ 7 , 8 , 9 ], volumetric 3D display [ 10 , 11 , 12 ], light-field 3D display [ 13 , 14 , 15 ] and Microstructure-based 3D display [ 16 , 17 , 18 ], can provide more information and more realistic 3D scenes. However, the inherent drawbacks limit the application of tabletop 3D displays, for example, the shallow depth of field, the low viewing resolution and the viewing jump.…”

“…As an increasingly important optical element, a microlens array (MLA) is characterized by its small size, light weight, and compactability. It provides a universal approach for compact micro-optics systems and is widely used in liquid crystal devices [ 1 , 2 ], laser beam homogenization [ 3 , 4 ], naked-eye 3D displays [ 5 ], and artificial compound eyes [ 6 , 7 , 8 , 9 ]. In particular, curved artificial compound eyes have generated more attention recently owing to their large field of view and low aberration or distortion.…”

“…Nano-imprint lithography (NIL) is an advanced lithographic technology for micro/nano devices [ 1 , 2 , 3 , 4 , 5 ]. NIL is well known for its applicable adjusted flexibility in MEMs electronics, biological applications, and polymer patterning [ 6 , 7 , 8 , 9 , 10 , 11 , 12 ]. The NIL process can achieve resolutions beyond the limits of light diffraction or scattering because it induces direct contact with the resistance for mechanical deformation of the material.…”
