Design and Implementing Possibilities of Composite Pontoon Bridge

Abstract: and Technology regarding the production and testing (on proving ground) of composite pontoon bridge. The starting point for this work was the experience gained from the project named "Light, resistant to environmental hazards, aluminum-composite hybrid pontoon used in constructing floating bridges of MLC 70/110 class". Each one of the three V-shaped outriggers was designed using different technology. The middle part was constructed mostly of aluminum by company PREMO, but the smaller outrigger and all parts of… Show more

“…Carbon fibers (CFs) exhibit excellent mechanical, chemical, and physical properties, such as high tensile strength, wear resistance, corrosion resistance, and electrical and thermal conductivity; thus, they can be widely applied in various industries, including the automotive, aerospace, construction, and ocean industries ( Jacob, 2014 ; Soutis, 2005 ; Błażejewski et al., 2018 ; Holmes, 2018 ; Caltagirone et al., 2021 ; Meng et al., 2017 ; Xiong et al., 2021 ; Cai et al., 2019 ; Wang et al., 2019 ). However, CFs have two major disadvantages that prevent them from being used commercially, namely their high cost compared to glass fiber, and poor wettability and adhesion owing to its highly crystalline graphitic surface structure ( Chukov et al., 2015 ; Kim et al., 2011 ; Yao et al., 2018 ).…”

“…Botros et al [29] used composite pontoons as piers for floating bridges and off-shore structures. Błażejewski et al [30] designed and fabricated a hybrid aluminum-composite pontoon bridge (from glass fibers) and concluded the importance of composite materials in floating bridges. The development of floating bridges requires the usage of new materials instead of traditional steel as the steel ferry has many limitations because of steel properties (relative low strength and large density in compare to carbon fibers).…”
