“…Two magnet projects (EDIPO [6], and the Series-Connected Hybrids [1]) have been using "advanced" Nb Sn strands, with non-Cu larger than 2200 A/mm at 12 T and 4.2 K. We have investigated a 0.81 mm diameter Bruker/EAS PIT strand in a qualifying program, the results of which are reported at this conference in a separate paper [7]. One of the findings therein is that the PIT wire withstands the irreversible -deteriorating tensile strain that often occurs in a CICC in operation up to 0.1%.…”

“…Digital Object Identifier 10.1109/TASC.2010.2043659 developed e.g., in the EDIPO project [6] and the Series-Connected Hybrid projects of the NHMFL [1]. More specifically, we require that the outsert magnet be stable against insert magnet trips, i.e., does not quench, which is a serious complication in a hybrid magnet.…”

“…T HE superconducting test facility EDIPO will provide a uniform DC field of 12.5 T over a length of 1 m for testing superconducting samples [1]. With the acronym EDIPO in this paper we will refer to the racetrack dipole main magnet (MM) and the superconducting transformer (TRAFO): the first is wound with cable-in-conduit conductors (CICC) whereas the second is wound with a SC cable.…”

“…T HE Europen Dipole (EDIPO) project (Table I, Figs. 1, 2, [1]) aims to build a high field magnet made of a pair of saddle-shape superconducting coils wound by Cable-In-Conduit Conductors (CICCs) with Nb3Sn strands. EDIPO is designed to produce a uniform ( 3% variation) dc field over a length inside a 100 mm 150 mm bore and to generate, with , a time-varying field of up to .…”
