Design and Simulation of a Microfluidic Blood-Plasma Separation Chip Using Microchannel Structures

Abstract: Current clinical methods for the separation of whole blood into blood cells and cell-free plasma are currently based on large facility equipment, such as centrifuges. The disadvantage of this process is that the patients must have assays performed at the hospital or laboratory where the separation facility is located. The present study presents a design for microfluidic chips with different microchannel structures, which utilizes backward facing step geometry and centrifugal force to extract the cell-free plas… Show more

“…To solve Eqs. (22) and (26) by the DQM, the nanowire is discretized into N − 1 segments separated by N nodes. In the DQM method, the rth-order derivatives of the function f(x) defined as [52] where the weighed coefficient of rth-order derivatives are defined as where…”

“…Measurement of the angular speed has importance in rotary systems, machines and industrial control systems [22]. There are many promising applications such as fault detection of roller bearings [23], balancing power plant rotating equipment [24], measurement of high-speed spindle errors in CNC machining [25], centrifuge devices for separating the solids from liquids [26], etc. Moreover, NEMS can be used as angular speed sensors in turbomachinery.…”

“…While fluid flow profiles have been studied in detail, fibre trajectories have only been studied for dilute suspension with basically no fibre-fibre interactions. Similar geometries were recently studied for their use in micro fluidics [14][15][16][17]. Small particles were separated from larger and/or longer particles in T-Junction geometries for laminar flow conditions and comparably low particle concentrations.…”

There are many promising applications, such as the fault detection of roller bearings [19], balancing rotating equipment [20], measurement of high-speed spindle errors [21], uidic centrifuges [22], turbomachinerry, etc. In these applications, the presence of the centrifugal force plays a major role in determining the electromechanical response of these NEMS sensors.…”
