Design and study of a microstrip slot antenna operating at 2.8/3.1/3.6/4.7/5.4 GHz

Abstract: Abstract.A novel design of a multi band microstrip antenna is presented in this work. The double modified U slots planar patch antenna is designed, simulated and fabricated to operate at 2.8 GHz (between 2.794 to 2.846 GHz), at 3.1 GHz (between 3.145 to 3.196 GHz), at 3.6 GHz (between 3.56 to 3.3.644 GHz), at 4.7 GHz (between 4.684 to 4.772 GHz) and at 5.4 GHz (between 5.423 to 5.526 GHz) for WiMAX/WLAN applications. One of the main challenges was keeping a low profile and low cost substrate (1.2mm and FR4 res… Show more

“…Ls = Ln + 6h (6) Ws = Wn + 6h (7) Where the above parameters are as follows c=speed of light which is approximately 3*10 8 m/s, fr is the resonant frequency, εr defines the dielectric constant or relative permittivity similarly εreff is the effective dielectric constant. Leff=effective Length and the Lp or L denotes the Length of the patch, Wp or W defines the Width of the patch Finally Ls and Ws represents Length and the width of the substrate respectively.…”

“…In order to substantiate the innovation of the designed structure the various parameters such as S11, antenna gain, VSWR and bandwidth are interpreted. For ensuring better efficiency, larger bandwidth and better radiation which are highly required in application like radar communication, a thick dielectric substrate of dielectric constant less than 10 is desirable [7,8]. One of the main focuses is to reduce the size of the structure by proper miniaturization techniques [9].…”

“…The ECC shows how well the single antenna elements are correlated between them. The ECC value is zero in ideal condition but in practical the acceptable limit is 0.5 6 . The ECC is calculated for two antennas each one plane from each plane (i.e., port 1 and port 8) using the far‐field (Equation 5).…”
