Design and Test of a Mobile Antenna System With Tri-Band Operation for Broadband Satellite Communications and DBS Reception

Abstract: Abstract-The tri-band mobile antenna system for broadband multimedia services in the Ka/K-band and a simultaneous direct broadcast service in the Ku-band has been developed. The radiating part of the antenna consists of a shaped dual reflector system and a tri-band feed of circular polarization. The low-profile offset main reflector has an aperture size of 60 cm 20 cm; therefore, a fan beam is formed which is sharp in azimuth and wide in elevation. The feed system contains a protruding dielectric rod for Ka/K-… Show more

“…The parabolic reflector of satellite HRA presented in (Young-Bae & Seong-Ook, 2008) is fed by horn antenna array and has a gain 37 dB in range of frequencies 30,085-30,885 GHz. A tri-band mobile HRA with operates by utilizing the geo-stationary satellite Koreasat-3 in tri-band (Ka, K, and Ku) was desined, and a pilot antenna was fabricated and tested (Eom et al, 2007). One of the ways of development of methods of detection of sources of a signal at an interference with hindrances is the use of adaptive HRA.…”

“…Mobile Ku/Ka-band antenna system was designed in 2005. The antenna [3] consists of shaped dualreflector with a tri-band feed ( Fig.1.b). The gain is 39.6 dBi in Ka-band and 29.3 in Ku-band.…”

“…High gains of 30 dBi or higher are required, leading to the use of reflector antennas (Eom et al, 2007) or array antennas (Mousavi et al, 2008). Reflectors antennas are often mechanically steered and housed in a radome which results in a high profile device approaching half a meter in depth (Fig.…”
