Design and testing of a pulley and cable actuator for large ball valves

Abstract: The objective of this work is the development of an innovative actuator for Velan ABV S.p.A., which is mainly used for control and special on/off applications where high efficiency and linear behaviors are desirable specifications. The main performances of the proposed actuator, which has been protected by a patent, have been compared with a conventional scotch yoke one, using both the simulation results and the experimental data. In order to measure the efficiency and the dynamical response of the actuators, … Show more

“…For what concerns proposed actuators, it is supposed to adopt a control bandwidth of exerted forces limited to 40 Hz, which is a feasible value as example for a servo-hydraulic systems (Pugi et al, 2016(Pugi et al, , 2020. One of the main features of the proposed system is the adoption of a hyperstatic structure.…”

“…To that purpose, and to verify a wide range of different loading and operating conditions, authors are also considering the application of Hardware In the Loop Testing techniques. The latter have been successfully applied in previous experiences concerning the robust design of actuators for safety relevant applications in the oil and gas sector (Pugi et al, 2017c(Pugi et al, , 2016.…”
