“…As for the extraction performances of MWCNT-H 2 O 2 -γ-CD and MWCNT-H 2 O 2 -β-CD, better results were obtained using the nanocomposite functionalized with γ-CD, thus assuming that this receptor is able to complex PAHs more effectively. These findings are consistent with those reported by Belenguer-Sapiña et al [ 17 ], who developed silica structures containing bound CDs for the determination of phenolic compounds in air and PAHs in water samples. As already demonstrated, the complementarity of the cavity size with the steric hindrance of the analytes plays a key role in promoting their extraction from water: β-CD and γ-CD have cavity diameters of 0.78 and 0.95 nm, respectively, while PAHs have volumes in the 0.8–0.9 nm range.…”

“…CDs can form host-guest complexes with different compounds, such as dyes, ions, and volatile and semivolatile organic compounds: in particular, both β- and γ-CDs demonstrated excellent inclusion performances towards polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) [ 17 21 ]. Other advantageous features rely on the low price compared to other designed receptors, negligible environmental impact, and near-zero toxicity.…”

“…The characterization of the interactions between chitosanases and affinity resins was carried out using equilibrium adsorption study. Scatchard analysis model was used for analysis of the desorption constant ( K d ) and the theoretical maximum adsorption capacity ( Q max ) of different affinity resins [22,29]. Various concentrations of enzymes (10 mL, 0.1–0.9 mg/mL in 20 mM Tris-HCl buffer, pH 8.0) were combined with 5 g of each type of resin to reach the adsorption equilibrium in a shaken condition.…”

“…Conventional column techniques using commercially available octadecylsilyl (ODS) or C18-bonded phases are probably the most widespread method used to date, which can attain high enrichment factors by extracting PAHs from large-volume samples [5][6][7][8][9][10][11][12]. Novel materials for column packing, such as multiwalled carbon nanotubes or graphene [13][14][15][16], magnesium oxide microspheres [17], molecularly imprinted polymers [18], bound cyclodextrin-silica phase [19,20], and biosorbents [21,22], have been developed and used for the extraction of PAHs. Nevertheless, the disadvantages of conventional column techniques, such as the requirement of several steps to complete the enrichment process, the use of several milliliters of eluent, and possible contamination and loss resulting from the processing of large-volume sample solutions, have led researchers to develop new micro-SPE methods [3,4,[23][24][25][26][27][28].…”
