Design Concept for a Future Super Proton-Proton Collider

Abstract: Following the discovery of the Higgs boson at the LHC in 2012, new large colliders are being considered and studied by the international high-energy community to explore the Higgs boson in details and to probe new physics beyond the Standard Model. In China, a two-stage circular collider project, CEPC-SPPC was proposed and is under study. The first stage, CEPC (Circular Electron Positron Collier, a so-called Higgs factory) is focused on the Higgs physics, and the second stage, SPPC (Super Proton-Proton Collide… Show more

“…Both machines will share a tunnel of 100 km in circumference. While CEPC is designed to have a center-of-mass (CM) energy of 60-350 GeV [3], SPPC can reach unprecedented high CM energy up to 125 TeV [4]. According to the presently envisioned timeline of the CEPC-SPPC project, CEPC will be constructed in 2028-2035 and starting of SPPC construction will likely be after 2044.…”

“…Our analysis is focused on the potential reach of the LHC at 14 TeV, in addition to the hypothetical FCC-hh [52] and SppC [53] at 100 TeV. The Delphes software package [50] incorporates the configuration card for ATLAS and CMS detectors at the LHC, while the equivalent one for the FCC-hh baseline detector is available online (2) and a detailed description of the implementation is available in Ref.…”

“…Several hadron colliders and electron-hadron colliders have been proposed: the LHeC at CERN [35]; the HE-LHC also at CERN [36]; the SppC in China [37]; and the FCC-eh/hh at CERN [35,38].…”
