Purpose The purpose of this paper is to study the latest global automotive industry’s competitive strategies comprehensively before being categorized into countries, automakers and other scholars. Design/methodology/approach In total, 54 most relevant articles have been chosen from various journals and databases between the years 2017 and 2018 with search items “Competitive” and “Automotive” for the most updated review. Based on findings, there are total 133 competitive strategies. Findings Based on the review and analysis of the literature, all of these three categories, countries, automakers and other scholars, are using new product development (NPD) as a competitive strategy. As a result, further research on NPD, specifically in the automotive industry area, is vital for industry’s competitiveness based on this study. Research limitations/implications Firms are advised to be ahead from the competitors in terms of business model or in their management in order to attain sustainability. However, to the authors’ best knowledge, there is no comprehensive review on competitive strategies for automotive globally by countries, automakers and other scholars. Practical implications The competitive strategies are reviewed comprehensively so that other than guiding the further research, they can help automakers, especially from developing countries, to improve the strategies suitable to the current trend. Social implications Automotive industry plays a key role in the day-to-day activity of human life by not only providing mobility but also having an enormous impact of the industry on economic, environmental and social activities throughout the globe. Originality/value Most of the articles reviewed related to certain country or comparison between the countries, and certain automaker or comparison between the automakers, but still no study about comprehensive review globally covered in the larger scope, divided into three categories; countries, automakers and other scholars even though the study is vital not only to academicians but also to practitioners.

Simulating the Evolution Mechanism of Inner Innovation in Large-Scale Construction Enterprise with an Improved NK Model

The aim of this study is to simulate the self-organized evolution mechanism of inner innovation of large-scale construction enterprises (LSCE) under different contexts. Based on NK stochastic combinatorial optimization model with two parameters (N, K), this study proposes three modules—ambidexterity, punctuated equilibrium, and automation—to simulate the change behaviors of the inner innovation system. Furthermore, this study analyses the influence of factor correlation on inner innovation performance under discusses nine different combination situations. The research results show that (a) regardless of how the relationship strength changes, fitness increases with an increasing K value; and (b) the comparison of optimization modes show that the punctuated equilibrium mode can guarantee the long- and short-term inner innovation performance LSCE. This study therefore reveals the mutual effects of the factors in the inner innovation system in LSCE and provides an effective model for internal systems analyses in the construction industry and in other sectors.

Automotive industry is believed to be the pioneer in pushing the growth of manufacturing industry in Indonesia. Electric vehicles (EV) entry to the Indonesian automotive market at the moment is relatively new, with market penetration being modest at best. It is estimated that 30% of automotive component suppliers in Indonesia will disappear because EVs have fewer components than current conventional vehicles. An effective strategy is needed so that the automotive industry is able to face the transformation towards electric vehicle. the objectives of this research are 1) Understanding Indonesian research trends based on themes and keywords from industrial engineering and 2) Discover what research is increasingly getting momentum. The results show that Supply Chain Management is the most favourite knowledge area for a study of automotive component industry, recorded 13 papers from 2010 to 2021. The second most favourite is Engineering Management with 12 papers between 2010 and 2021. The keywords trends and Scival Topic Prominance are also discussed in this paper.
