Design methodologies and CAD tools [VLSI]

Abstract: An analysis of VLSI chips shows that the integration density, computed with a normalization, decreased by a factor three or so over the last ten years. The main factor is the intensive use of design automation. Design methodologies with less abstraction levels than usual will be discussed. We feel that such methods are easier to use and to automatize, while providing efficient chips.
