Design of a HTS Solenoid for a Gyrotron Magnet Upgrade

Abstract: The design of a HTS cryogen-free solenoid for a gyrotron magnet upgrade is presented. This gyrotron is used to set up and warm the plasma in an experimental fusion device at Ciemat. The solenoid will be wound with BISCCO-2223 tapes. A two stage Gifford-McMahon cryocooler will be used to cool down the magnet. A significant operation cost will be saved as the present solenoid is a Nb-Ti magnet cooled down in a helium bath supplied with mobile tanks. The main requirement of the magnet is to reproduce the original… Show more

“…Superconducting magnets are the essential components in the fusion industry and systems [104,105]. Thus, AI techniques were developed widely to design, monitor, and model the behaviour of SCs in these systems [107][108][109][110][111][112][113][114].…”

“…To reduce beam power density deposition at the collector, these coils are fed with alternating current and, therefore also called Saddle or sweeping coil. The design and fabrication of magnets have been done under consideration of field profile homogeneity along axial (z-direction) as well as in radial direction (r-direction [6][7].…”

“…This is because the STM provides unparallel spatial resolution and unique access to conducting material surfaces. For example, the RF STM [4][5][6] and the ac STM [7,8] provide insights on local thermal, mechanical and chemical proprieties of metal surfaces and organic layers. Another technique that substantially relies on a similar combination of RF electronics and STM is the ESN-STM.…”
