Design of a LP, RHCP and LHCP Polarization-Reconfigurable Holographic Antenna

Abstract: In this paper, the feasibility of utilizing the microwave hologram to realize the high-gain radiation with polarization agility performance is investigated, and an effective method to design the polarizationreconfigurable holographic antenna is presented. By utilizing a polarization-insensitive hologram as the leaky-wave radiating structure and an appropriately designed, embedded, polarization-reconfigurable feeding launcher to control the polarization state of the radiating leaky waves, a polarization-reconfi… Show more

“…From the scalar nature of the metasurface follows that the TM and TE polarization of the field could be designed separately. This aspect has been used to design polarization-insensitive antennas [111], dual-circularly polarized antenna [112], polarization reconfigurable antennas [113] and to generate different beams using multiple sources [114].…”

“…A similar approach was used to realize dual reconfigurable polarizations using tensor impedance surfaces, and recently proposed in [27]. Another recently-proposed design achieves polarization reconfigurability by using polarization-insensitive holographic surfaces, where the reconfiguration is facilitated by diodes on the surface-wave launchers [28].…”

“…Compared with features such as frequency [12,13], intensity [14,15], direction [16], and spin angular momentum [17], the utilization of polarization state has been proved to be a popular method. Under different incident polarization states, a rich number of multi-functional devices were delicately designed, such as beam splitters [18,19], chiral structures [20,21], antenna [22], holographic devices [23,24]. On the other hand, intensity-dependent multi-functional devices also attract more and more attention since the beginning of this century [25].…”
